Cleaning your Oven Filters

I really almost always forget about cleaning these filters so this pin was a good excuse to get them done.  When I took them down, I thought, they are not that dirty.  Well, as you can see, in the last picture all of the gross grime around the edge of the pot and when I took them out of the water they looked so much better.  The only bummer is that you should be prepared for your stove top to end up looking like mine did and plan on having to clean up a little afterwards. Other than that, this worked really well.  This gets five stars in every area!

                                                          my stovetop after
                                                          all of the grime, yuck!

DIRECTIONS: get a large pot of water and bring to a boil, add in 1/2 cup of baking soda, slowly and then place your filters in, let sit in the water for about 10-15 minutes, remove and rinse.  You can also repeat the process if you feel you need too.

Stenciling with Chocolate

I am not a fan of this method, it did not work and not only that it seemed to make it harder.  To me it seemed easier to just free hand it rather than use a stencil.  I got the bird to come out sort of cute but the words were a huge failure.

Removing Hot Glue

I cannot tell you how many times I have needed this in the past! I am so glad that not only was this on Pinterest but that it worked.  It is kind of hard to tell but in the top picture I have the glue on the fabric and in the bottom picture it is gone. a This was so simple and I cannot believe no one had told me this before!

Directions:  Plug your hot glue gun  in and use it's heated metal part to melt the glue back into liquid. (some glue will leak out of it. Ignore it. It's okay to get more glue on the already dry glue)Now repeat the last step over and over again until most of the glue is off.

Keeping your Bananas Fresh Longer

I tired this method two different times, the first time I did it I thought it worked really, really well and then when I tried it the second time I realized it wasn't that it worked well but that the first bananas were much more ripe so naturally they lasted longer than the second set of banana's.  This did not lessen the time between buying them and them going bad, they progressed at the same pace as they normally did. This is a cheap and easy method but it just does not work.

Storing Craft Paint Bottles

Why I had not ever thought of this is beyond me.  I always pulled them out and when they were almost empty sat there hitting the bottom or waiting while it dripped to the top from the bottom.  Now I just store them all upside down so that when I pull them out to use they are ready to go.  Now I do not have to wait for the paint to slowly drip from the bottom to the top, it is already waiting for me.

Glow in the Dark Stairs

Doesn't look remotely the same does it? I did everything right, got the glow sticks like it said, cut them open and then poured them onto my stairs and this is the effect it had.  The glow faded right away and what was left were a few spots of glow.  I think you could get this effect by buying glow in the dark paint but then it is paint so it would not come off as easily as a glow stick.  Bummer, the stairs look so cool and would be fun for Halloween.

Sunburn Remedy

If you can believe it I just got sunburned like this poor person and the whole time I kept thinking, "Oh well, at least I can test that pin now." We spent the afternoon in the pool and in the hot sun and my back and shoulders got so fried. I instantly tried out this remedy and although in the picture, her burn is gone the next day, mine has stayed with me for a week now.  And yesterday I woke up to blisters all over my back so I have to say that this remedy definitely did not work.  I was just as burned the next day and it did not keep it from peeling or blistering, like it says. In this remedy you use earl grey tea bags that have been seeped and then rub it on your burn.  I guess it may depend on how burned you are but I definitely was at least as burned as this person and probably almost the same.  I will save you from a picture of my nasty burn.

Pencil Holder for Teachers

Wouldn't you love to have one of these in your classroom?  These are so cute, unfortunately it is really hard and very expensive to come across a used straw holder like the one above.  Unless you are really lucky and find one at a thrift store then your best bet is to go with the ones that are popular right now, like below.  Although, I like the top one better, I think the bottom one still is cute and any teacher would like it in their classroom.

Pine Sol as Fly Repellant

I hate flies and they have been all over our backyard this summer and every time the back door opens a new fly comes in so I thought I would try this little pine sol remedy out.  It worked, it was great but it is only a temporary fix not something to get rid of the flies permanently, but it does not say that it is, this is more for evenings or bbq's.  Things that will only require you to be outside and have the flies away for a few hours.  For that purpose this is awesome and the strong smell of Pine sol fades away in the outside air pretty fast.

Adding a straw to a notebook

I am not sure if there are larger straws out there but I tried three different kinds all with the same results. A pen or pencil do not fit inside straws so this pin does not work.  It is a good idea if the pens and pencils would fit in the straw but the straw is much smaller than the pen/pencil.

Cleaning your glass oven door

It is hard to see but there is a lot of gunk all over my oven door.  I tested this pin and it does not work, not only did it not get the stuff off of my oven door but baking soda leaves the biggest mess that is so hard to clean up and lingers forever.  I compare baking soda to Christmas tree needles, you think you have gotten them all and then in July you are still cleaning them up.  Those blasted Christmas needles and baking soda. You can see in the bottom pictures the white mess it left all over my stove and the big pile of baking soda paste I had to clean up.  All of that and it did not even work, such a bummer.

Keeping your Fridge Clean

This idea is genius!  You work so hard to get your fridge all clean and then it is dirty a week later.  This is not the cheapest method but I think it is so worth it.  You lay it down and when it is dirty off it comes and your fridge is still clean.  This is especially great for sticky stuff that spills and is so hard to get off.  It does take some time to get everything covered and you need to buy saran wrap or press n seal and little round stickers to get it to stick down.  Other than that it is easy and very effective.

Easier Way to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

I know there are several methods on Pinterest to make peeling hard boiled eggs easier but, I have to say, after trying this one, this is not one of them.  With this method you add some baking soda to your pot with the water and egg.  Once this was done I did not find it any easier to peel than without the baking soda just the same old peeling process I was used too.

Fly Remedy

This seems like such a silly thing and how it works I do not know but it does work.  It works really well and is so easy to put together.  We were getting so many flies in the house and now we haven't had a fly since the day I put it out.  All you do is put some pennies in a ziploc bag full of water and that's it, good bye nasty flies.

Make your own Washi Tape

This idea did not come from Pinterest but rather from my very crafty mother, so I thought I would share it with you.  All you need is scrapbook paper, packaging tape, scissors and water.  Put your packaging tape on your paper and then cut down your paper to size, place under water and rub the paper off, the pattern will stick to the tape and now you have washi tape.  I love this cause your possibilities are as endless as your paper supplies and it is so easy to make.  It looks a lot like real washi tape and can be made to be any size, I think you could do this with wrapping paper as well.

Time Out Jar

I love this idea, put the glitter in and then shake it up when your child needs to have time out and when all of the glitter settles than there time out is over.  I could not for the life of me get this to work.  More than half of the glitter fell right to the bottom and the other glitter just sat on the top of the jar and never fell.  I guess that means my kids would be in time out forever.:) Overall, since it did not work,  I think there are other options that are easier and just as effective for time out.

DIY Foaming Soap

I am so happy that this WORKED!!! What a great way to get your soap to last FOREVER!  The best is you can use any soap it does not have to be the Johnson's like it shows in the picture.  You can buy an economy size bottle of soap for about 7 dollars and I think it would last for so long.  You only need about 1 inch in the bottom of the bottle and the rest is water.  I bought my foaming soap bottle at Walmart for 1.50 and then just used this method to refill it.  You can also cover the bottle with scrapbook paper to make it look more attractive if you wanted too.  Fast, Easy and Cheap!!!

Lemon to Remove Hard Water spots

Another lemon idea, this time for cleaning the hard water spots off of your fixtures.  This one worked a little bit but still left a lot of water spots on the fixture that I needed to follow up with my usual cleaner to get rid of all of the water stains.  Plus, I do not usually have fresh lemons around, I only buy them when I need one, so this one was not practical for me either.

Aspirin for Pimples

This could not have come at more of a perfect time.  I had one of those zits that was so big and painful and would not get a head on it so I could pop it.  It was so big it looked like a mosquito bite.  I gave the aspirin remedy a try and as you can see there was no difference between my before and after picture.  I did notice about 1 week later that my face started to peel where I had put the aspirin on my zit. So for now this is not one for me and not one I will try again.  Bummer, I just had to suffer through until it got a head and went away. :(
