Homemade Caramel for Dipping Apples

As you can see my test on this recipe did not turn out nearly as pretty or nice as the one shown in the picture.  I want to try this again because I think this would be such a perfect replacement for all of those wrapped caramels and melting them but for my first try this did not work at all.  It did taste good but mine never thickened and burned on the bottom really fast.  This is a very delicate mix so you have to be careful with the heat.  It also covered the apples but not in the beautiful way in the picture. Overall, I give it a pins down.
