Roast

I never have very good luck with my roasts turning out tender and yummy but this recipe made a difference.  My roast turned out tender and really good.  It was so easy to make because it is just in the crock pot and the whole family enjoyed it.  Definitely a keeper!!

Chevron Accent Wall

I saw someone on Pinterest just do one wall as an accent wall in black chevron.  I loved that idea so I painstakingly cut out chevron from my red vinyl but I love, love how it turned out.  It just gives a little punch to the rest of the room.

Sink Extender from Soap Bottle

This was not easy to make and did not work the way it is intended.  First, the bottom is so hard to cut out and I had to cut almost the whole bottom out to fit the faucet.  Then it was way to big for my sink and leaked a ton! Then when I cut it down to fit the length of the sink, it still took up the whole sink and leaked everywhere.  I was not impressed and was really hoping this would work better than it did.  Not worth the time and effort it took!!

These are so good and so quick to make.  The only hard part was to get the chocolate to cover the whole ball.  Other than that these were so good and we ate them so fast!!!! This would be a fun and easy treat to take to a party or to just have at home.  A fun new version of rice krispie treats!

Baby Powder and Mascara

This really works!! The pin says to put one coat of mascara on and then dip your wand in baby powder and then dip it back into the mascara and then put a second coat of mascara on and it makes your lashes longer.  Not only did it work but I was able to go several applications, days later, with the one dip of baby powder and it really makes my eyelashes longer. Love this and I will use it all of the time.  I did not dip my wand I just held it over the sink and poured the baby powder on the wand.  I am sure this will work different with all the different types of mascara out there but so far so good.

Apple Candles

Don't these look so pretty and it says that they will smell good too! Well mine does not looks so pretty, the candles would have to burn for a long time for that wax to melt down the side, so if you wanted to use them as a decoration for a party or something, plan to have them burning for a really long time. Also, there was absolutely no smell that came off of these apples.  I did read that you could add some cloves into them on another post so maybe that would make them actually smell.  But as for how the pin was stated this pin did not work.

Monte Cristo Sandwiches

These sandwiches are so good, we have made them several times since I first pinned the pin a few weeks ago.  My kids love them too, which is always a huge plus in our house.  They are easy to make and other than the pastry puff, are pretty cheap to make.  If you need a quick, yummy meal, this is a good one to have.

Ice to remove indentations from Furniture

When you move furniture it really is the worst to have indentations that show everyone just where that furniture was sitting before. I have used this solution many times in my many moves of homes and it really works.  Just do as the picture says and place ice cubes on the indentation, after a while they will disappear.  It is cheap, easy and works great.

Keeping Brown Sugar Soft

This pin states that you can put large marshmallows at the top of your brown sugar and it will keep it soft and fresh.  I put my marshmallows in my open bag of brown sugar about 6 weeks ago and my brown sugar is just as soft and fresh as before.  No hard as a rock brown sugar.  This worked great!

Sliced Caramel Apples

When I tried this pin I tried the caramel first which did not work, the caramel would only stick to the part of the apple that still had skin.  Then I tried the chocolate first and then the caramel and that worked much better.  I love the idea of the slices, so much easier to eat! This way you do not have to eat a huge apple and it does not make that big of a mess.  This would also make a cute gift for others.

Homemade Goldfish Crackers

This pin gives you a recipe to make your own goldfish crackers.  I gathered all of the ingredients and followed the directions.  While these did turn out I really did not like the taste of them.  It tasted like a big glob of cheese but I am sure there are some people who would like the test better than I did. I did not find it very practical because goldfish are so cheap and taste much better although they are processed which is the only bad thing about buying them.  If you are trying to quit eating processed foods then this is not a bad way to do that.  If you take about 1 hour a month you can double the recipe and make quite a bit of these.

Directions:

  • 8 ounces, weight Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Shredded
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter, Cut Into Cubes
  • 1 cup Flour
  • ¾ teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Cold Water
  • Pulse everything (except water) together in the food processor until the dough resembles coarse sand.
Pulse in water, 1 tablespoon at a time.
Remove dough from the processor, wrap in plastic, and chill for 20 minutes.
Roll out the dough and cut into desired shapes. You can use a toothpick to make the eyes and smile if desired. Place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees F for about 15 minutes, or until crispy.
    Makes approximately 7 dozen crackers

Make your own microwave popcorn

This pin has you put kernels in a paper bag and pop it in the microwave.  This pin definitely worked and was really easy to do.  Put some kernels in the bag, pop it in the microwave and then add your toppings and you are done.  Fresh and no harmful ingredients.

Getting rid of bugs on your car

This pin states that you can take a dryer sheet and get rid of all of the bugs off of your car.  The next time I washed the car, I got my dryer sheets out and I put this one to the test.  It got rid of the fresh bugs but not anything that had been on there for awhile. It did leave a residue so it is best to wash your car afterwards. I was actually surprised that it got rid of as many bugs that it did, it just did not get rid of them all. So if you are going to be scrubbing bugs off of your car you might as well use something that will get rid of them all, for that reason I am giving it a pins down. Next time I will use something that gets all of the bugs off.

Skittles Paint

This pin states that you can put skittles in water and then use it as paint.  I did not like this pin at all, while the skittles did turn into paint, the paint was really, really light and was hard to see once on the paper. Plus, unless you already have skittles you have to go buy some and the cost of skittles is more expensive than paints.  It does smell good though.

DIY Bath Colors

This pins states that you put water into an ice cube tray and then put food coloring into the water and then freeze them, once they are frozen you can take them out and put them in your kids bathtubs and they turn the water colors.  The only reason I do not like this is because I know I would forget these were in my freezer and then it would take up more room in my freezer then I would want.  It is easier for me to just buy the color tablets next to the bathtub to just put in when the kids take a bathtub.  Other than those many reasons, this did work and the kids thought it was fun but I just know I don't have the time for this and I would definitely forget about them.

Caramel Apple Bar

Once again I fell into the problem of only getting the caramel to stick onto the skin and not on the whole apple. You would also need to have some sort of warmer to keep the caramel warm and dip-able.  This is a really fun idea and I think party goers would really like it if you could solve the small problems I ran into.

Getting Rid of Moldy Caulk

We moved into a new place and there was a little bit of mold on the caulk.  I tried several different things until I saw this pin.  This worked awesome!! I did not use the cotton coil because mine was just in a few small spots.  I used small cotton squares and doused them with bleach cleaner and then left them for 24 hours.  When they were done, I moved them and the mold was gone!! What a great solution and much better than having to remove all of the old caulk and replace it with new caulk.  Next time you have mold on your caulk, try this method out.  It worked great!!

Directions: If you have a lot of mold like the picture, go to the beauty store and buy a cotton coil, soak it in bleach and place around caulk on tub, let sit for 24 hours and then remove.  If just spots then just soak small cotton squares in bleach and leave for 24 hours.

Paint Bags for Kids

This pin has you put paint in a ziploc bag and then let you kids play with it like that.
The paint was really hard to get mixed around in the bags and I did not want to tape them to my table because it would take the finish off.  The paint was really hard to move around and would be hard for the kids to get to move around, especially how they would want it too.  Kids would give up pretty easy on this one.

Ice Cubes

I was glad I found this because my daughter wanted to test what happened between using cold and hot water.  First, we tried hot and cold water and there was not much of a difference and then I found this and it really worked.  The best results were right after they froze, the longer they were frozen the less clear they became.  This would be great for putting something inside of for a party.  Just be sure to use them as soon after they have frozen as you can, that way they are much more clear.

I thought this was so funny and perfect for the blog.

DIY Jolly Rancher Suckers

These were so easy to make and my kids thought they were the best thing ever.  They were so excited to see that I had made them and could not wait to taste them.  Obviously, the suckers are not much more than buying a bag of jolly ranchers but the thing about these is that the kids thought they were awesome and you can make all sorts of flavor combinations.  These would be fun for a party or activity with the kids.  You will have to find a way to store them if they do not all get eaten on the same day. I probably will not make them again unless the kids ask but it was a fun thing to try out.

Water Blob

So this pin says you can take two plastic drop cloths, tape them together and fill it up with water and then it becomes this big bouncy, water blob.
I have to say I had really high hopes for this one and can I tell you this was a MAJOR Pins Down.  Not only was it a complete pain to get the sheeting out straight and to keep it straight but to then tape it all together, it took forever! Then it took forever to fill it up! Even after all of that, I was still excited to see how it would turn out.  As you can see mine would never stay in a rectangle and kept folding over itself.  It would not fill up all of the way so it was hard and not bouncy when you stepped on it.  I followed the directions to a tee but yet it still did not come out anything like it should have.  When I finally finished and went to walk on it, I discovered there were about three or four holes, that at some point, had happened.  This was definitely not worth the time or effort you put into it! There are so many other things that are easier and quicker and last longer.
